Not surprisingly, truly talented traders share a number of traits that help make them so good — and I thought it might be useful to list some of them. Feel free to cut out this column and tape it next to your trading screen >Always seem to have a strong sense of self-awareness. They understand how they are hardwired, and know what to expect from themselves — which, in turn, allows them to react calmly under pressure, because they can visualize their response. This increases their confidence that future trades will turn out well. >Understand that it’s not sensible to get too amped up over a winning trade, nor to get despondent about a losing one. 明白在盈利的时候过分乐观或者亏损的时候心情沮丧都是不明智的 >Think in terms of probabilities but don’t see trading as gambling. They view the financial markets objectively, always asking themselves: “Where does the greatest chance for profitability exist here?” This is the key question in every trading decision. >Trade to make money, not to be right. True traders are not interested in appearing smart. As the saying goes: “There is no bonus check at the end of the year for being smart.” 古话说“聪明并不会在年底给你带来红包” >Always know what their edge is. They trade only when they have an edge. No edge, no trade. >Have explicit game plans in place before the market opens. The best traders take into consideration multiple scenarios. This has a few practical implications: It means getting to bed early and rising early, and thus refraining from hard living. It means avoiding impulse bets; shooting from the hip is dangerous. Great traders know that once the bullets start flying, there’s little time to figure out a way out of a trade. > Rarely think about money when they’re trading. They base their decisions on the quality of the opportunity, not on how much money is involved. The ability to separate the emotions surrounding one’s relationship with money is probably the single most common great-trader trait I’ve detected. If you find yourself thinking, Well, it’s easy for them not to worry about money; I wouldn’t either if I were a super-rich trader, I would point out that those guys were also able to demonstrate such emotional detachment prior to making it big. > Keep the game simple. Small-scale, unsuccessful traders are the ones who make this stuff too complicated. Tey aren’t necessarily all that different. What makes them unique is that they truly love what they do and work extremely hard at mastering their craft. Success comes at a price. You have to be willing to pay it. |
